Emergency Info

For life-threatening emergencies, call 911.

Strata Emergencies

For urgent issues involving common property — water main breaks, road hazards, fallen trees blocking access, or other infrastructure emergencies — contact Colyvan Pacific.

During business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) Strata Manager: 250-754-4001

After hours 1-844-549-1085

Keep this number handy. The after-hours line is for genuine emergencies on common property — not general inquiries.

Water Emergencies

If you have a burst pipe or water leak on your property and can’t isolate it at your own shut-off valve, call the numbers above immediately.

Homeowners are responsible for the water service line from the road to their home. If you notice water pooling on the road or suspect a break on common infrastructure, report it to Colyvan Pacific right away — don’t wait to see if it resolves on its own.

Please do not flush disinfectant wipes — even brands labelled “flushable.” Many homes in Long Lake Heights rely on individual sewer lift pumps, and wipes cause pump failures and expensive repairs.

Fire Safety

Long Lake Heights sits in a fire-interface zone. A few things every resident should know:

Do not use flame or propane weed control devices on your property. These have caused fires in the community and are prohibited.

Cigarette butts. Never toss a cigarette butt while walking or into vegetation. In dry conditions, they can smolder for hours and ignite surrounding material.

Dryer vent cleaning is your responsibility as a homeowner. Lint buildup is a leading cause of residential fires. Clean your vent at least once a year.

See the FireSmart page for more on the community’s wildfire preparedness program.

Evacuation

If a wildfire or other emergency requires evacuation, follow directions from Nanaimo Fire Rescue and the RCMP. Monitor the City of Nanaimo’s emergency alerts and local radio for updates.

The City of Nanaimo provides emergency notifications through its public alert system. Register at nanaimo.ca to receive alerts for your address.

Wildlife

Long Lake Heights borders natural habitat. Bear sightings and other wildlife conflicts should be reported to the BC Conservation Officer Service:

1-877-952-7277 (24 hours)

Do not feed wildlife — including deer, raccoons, and birds. Feeding habituates animals to human presence and puts both animals and residents at risk. This is also prohibited under strata bylaws.

Power Outages

Report outages to BC Hydro at 1-800-224-9376 or online at bchydro.com/outages.

Prepare Your Household

Every household should have an emergency kit with at least 72 hours of supplies (water, food, medications, first aid, flashlight, and radio). For a checklist and guidance, visit PreparedBC at gov.bc.ca/preparedbc.
